A FARMER'S FERTILE VALLEY

BY

Laura Lee Christian

A fertile valley
bunched up with leafy green growth
in straight even rows
a proud white house overlooks the scene
and eyes peak out now and then
to watch the miracle of growing things
that come from seeds so small
the hard toil and labor
is rewarded now
as the sun gleams off their future hope
as they wait for the harvest to come
and the children run down the furrowed rows
in a good game of hide and seek
and the farmer's life seems so good and full
for the good earth was meant
for the meek
and the blue mountains beyond the house
glistening white at their peaks
and cotton clouds pulled apart by their sharp points
overlook all with love.
